Best Movie Theaters In Coimbatore

Times have been downright awkward ever since the pandemic hit us hard. Coimbatore is no exception with every entertainment hub like theaters keeping their doors shut, it was the final nail in the coffin for the city peeps.

But there were some ‘elite’ people and by elite I definitely don’t mean to bring in the standard to the equation but a bunch of collective quality of shrugging off the ongoing chaos. If you are guessing that I’m talking about the Cinephilia, you are right we are talking about the best theaters in Coimbatore to turn your weekends into an artistic carnival again.

With Netflix recording the highest ever subscriptions this year, and several other biggies resorting to OTT platforms, can’t help but notice it was kind of a final blow to theaters.

But let’s be honest, grabbing your popcorn and finding the best seats in the house to watch your favorite movies on a 70MM screen is something that you don’t experience at your den.

With Tamil Nadu government passing an ordinance to finally reopen the theaters doors, we have got you the list of best theaters in Coimbatore some of which you are totally aware of and some surprise entries making the list. So grab popcorn now for a movie buff blog coming your way.

Sri Murugan Theater

As promised a surprise entrant making it to the list, I’m sure not many are aware of this underrated gem, a hidden classic going unnoticed which is totally capable of bringing a big warm smile on your face with amazing ambience and instigate a sense of sticking to your weekend budget with a ticket price that doesn’t do honors to the electrifying show the theaters puts up.

What was once a torn up piece of theater that looked like a building lost and bamboozled in a war, it has evolved to a beautiful paradise looking ambience with immaculate picture quality and a spacious hall to house more people than any multiplex theater could accommodate.

SDC (Kalpana)

I think it’s the season of renovating war-torn theaters amidst the pandemic outbreak, another masterpiece tucked near the Murugan theater. Just in case if you find an odd place of running out from tickets at Murugan( which you will never), head straight to SDC that is under a 15 minutes drive.

Though not as huge as the former, SDC doesn’t fall short anywhere in terms of the unparalleled cinema quality, parking facility and pricing. The snack bar is equally loaded to its brim with some finger licking savouries that doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. A must try experience!

Kritika Theater

Perhaps the first theater in Coimbatore to go under the knife off lately to get an amazing makeover to offer an unforgettable cinematic experience. The place, maybe is not the best of the lot to relish, but if you are keen on watching a movie with a sound system that can literally erupt a volcano of emotion, then this is your best man In the wedding kind of man.

The sound quality is so amazing that sometimes it gets over the top, but you should do just fine. The ticket prices are the cheapest of the lot with tickets starting as low as INR.70( Prices may change). You will love the red treatment inside for sure. Check them out!

Inox- Prozone Mall

The newest addition to the cinematic universe of Coimbatore, Inox was launched in 2018 as a part of the entertainment wing under Prozone provinces. Boy oh boy, does it have a legacy under its hood, is it justified? Considering the loooooong footfalls it’s safe to say Inox is quick to jump in the good books of Coimbatorians.

The prices, well maybe its better we don’t bring that to the equation well good things obviously need people to shell out a few bucks. Inox theaters are known to run on packed houses and with the government allowing only 50% occupancy perhaps you should hurry up next time to not miss out on your favorite movies.

The SPI Cinemas – Brookfields

One of the first Multiplex theaters nuzzled in shopping mall, The SPI Cinemas strikes a strong wave of nostalgic moments to many people in the city, be it the fact being that this was the first theater to expose our city peeps to a better movie viewing experience like top tier city standards or the iconic masala popcorns that sells like hot cakes, the SPI scores in every aspect.

There are 6 screens here that are well kept and organized round the clock with amazing dolby atmos and blissful air conditioning.

Fun Cinemas

Following in the footprints of Brookfields, Fun cinemas is arguably one of the best theaters along the roads of Peelamedu region. The multiplex theater boasts of a decent lounge area and a moderate looking snack bar with a price that won’t go down easy on you.

The theater experience and sound quality is decent and just like Inox and brooks tickets tend to get sold out pretty quick especially during the outing of biggies.

Central Theater

The old boy in the town, the once celebrated and most loved cinema hall of Coimbatore has gone under the knife once again after years to look more sophisticated and up its game to take down its younger counterparts.

The parking lot is the biggest in this list, there are two screens set up here: One for the regional movies and the other for Hollywood movies. Central theater also takes pride in being one of the fewest theaters that used screen Hollywood movies decades back.

KG Cinemas

Remember the iconic shots from Sillunu Oru Kadhal where Surya pops a wheelie. Well there was something else in the frame that looked as dashing as the wheelie, Yes, KG cinemas that painted backdrops. The very first multiplex theater to grace the city of Coimbatore.

There are 5+ screens with one screen being the biggest capable of housing a huge crowd. But KG cinemas have been in a very bad form lately with a drowsy picture quality and a forgettable sound quality. The air conditioning is also on the downside, its high the authorities get buttoned up and go all guns blazing with the renovation works to stay in the game.

With theaters gearing up to get back on the game after nearly a sabbatical of 7 months with a 50% occupancy, perhaps we should never forget that the pandemic is still intact and take all safety measures before entering theaters.
