List of Hill temples in Coimbatore

Hills temples never cease to fascinate us. The little drops of adrenaline rush pumping in when we climb the road uphill or even the fun filled descending roads, there’s always a space for an x factor in hill temples.

Well Coimbatore is blessed with a lot of hill temples that can soothe out any unsettling feeling popping up in our heads with their unrivalled aura and pleasant ambience. So if you are looking for a list of all hill temples in Coimbatore, you are probably in the best place.

1. Ponnuthu Amman

A raw yet aesthetically brilliant temple on the outskirts of Thudiyalur that has long been serving as one of the prominent places for a spiritual experience. Ponnuthu Amman temple is around 13 kms from Gandhipuram and is less connected to the main roads.

The nearest happening places are Thadagam and Thudiyalur. The uphill climb is brief and can be done in under 20 minutes of trekking. The view uphill is fascinating for a hill temple that’s quite small on the paper.

What was once a low maintained temple has now turned out to be a good clean shrine but is yet to see a flock of devotees visiting here.

2. anuvavi subramaniyar temple

Just near the Ponnuthu Amman, Anuvavi subramaniar temple is also situated on the likes of Thadagam road. The nearest prominent places happens to be Thadagam alone. Venturing into the temple after the sun goes down is quite risky as this temple is known for the wild tuskers popping up at random times consistently.

The uphill steps are quite tiring but it offers a beautiful view uptop. Also the temple is well upkeep thanks to the management.

The ambience is quiet, relaxing and peaceful that weaves a sense of absolute tranquility when we get to the top.

A historical place that holds its value for years unknown, Marudhamalai is the pride of Coimbatore and also the most beloved Hill temples in Coimbatore. The journey from Vadavalli is as pleasant as it gets.

Marudhamalai sweeps us off our feet for the simple fact that it’s on the outskirts of the city and yet the most connected to the city center in this hill temples list. The temple belongs to the 12th century and is quite evident from the architecture.

There are around 482 steps here and what’s even more amusing is the fact that there’s a cave set right under the temple which was once believed to be used by the Paambatti Siddhar himself to worship lord Murugan.
